A highly versatile nutrient and antioxidant for
liver, energy, antioxidant, and glucose metabolism
Alpha-Lipoic
Acid (ALA) is a versatile, broad-acting, water- and lipid-soluble antioxidant
that uniquely provides intra- and extracellular protection throughout the body.
It can be taken in therapeutic doses ranging from 100 to 600 mg a day. ALA is a
sulfur-containing, vitamin-like substance needed in the body's production of
energy at the cellular level. It has a proven ability to lower chronic high
levels of insulin and glucose. Researchers using it increasingly believe that it
may be possible to use ALA to partially prevent or reverse damage caused by
diabetes, such as neuropathy. It has also been reported to be related to
increased cellular levels of N-acetyl. Alpha Lipoic Acid helps to regenerate
other antioxidants, such as vitamins C, E and glutathione. As a coenzyme for
energy production, alpha-lipoic acid helps transport blood glucose into the
cell, thus promoting normal blood sugar balance. Sub-optimal production of
alpha-lipoic acid in the body may occur with diabetes, neuropathy, liver
conditions, and high exposure to toxins
